“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
These words that Jesus spoke to His first followers were prophetic. They did indeed receive power after the Holy Spirit came upon them at Pentecost, and they were His witnesses first in Jerusalem, then in Judea and Samaria, and as they were scattered through persecution, to the ends of the earth.
Those prophetic words serve as a challenge to Immanuel Baptist Church today. Our challenge is to be witnesses in Lexington, in Kentucky, in North America, and throughout the rest of the world.
Immanuel Baptist Church has accepted the “Acts 1:8 Challenge” to be a worldwide mission center, engaging in intentional kingdom-growing efforts. Team GO, Immanuel’s new mission team, is prepared to lead our church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in engaging in eight kingdom growing responses.
Team GO will:
• prepare by developing mission teams, strategies, and plans to take the gospel to all four areas
• lead the church to learn about missions, mission service, and ways to connect to missionaries
• pray as a team and with the church, asking God to develop in Immanuel a kingdom perspective and worldwide vision, and to intercede for Christian workers and unevangelized peoples
• encourage everyone to give their time and their resources to God to reach unevan-gelized people everywhere
• provide opportunities for all church members to go on short-term and long-term mission trips and be involved in marketplace opportunities to spread the gospel beyond our church walls
• assist members to tell the good news of Jesus Christ using culturally relevant evangelism
• encourage Immanuel to send and support members who respond to a vocational call to missions
• facilitate church planting movements in order to multiply churches
Team GO is poised to help lead Immanuel into her second century as a
church that is passionate about the Lord, and passionate about reaching a lost
world. But this is not an effort for a small group of people. Every member of
Immanuel must be involved!
This is not a new program for a small group of people. Missions must become
a part of Immanuel’s DNA, and you must be a part. Start by using the prayer
guide that is available this month. The short devotions and prayers in it will
lead you to pray for specific people, areas of the world, and requests. You
will also pray for a spirit of revival in yourself and in your church, and for
the Holy Spirit to empower you to live a life of passion for the Lord and for
the world.
Be ready to go!
